HISTORY
- Kit: Torrentkit was born to the warrior Frostsong and a rogue father, about half a moon earlier than her half-siblings. Torrentkit was the result of a fling with the rogue cat Drake. She visited her father a few times along the clan's borders, and while he tried to connect with her, she found him too gruff and much preferred the Clan cats. When she was five moons old, Drake sneaked into camp and attempted to steal Torrentkit. He was discovered by the clan, and they apprehended him. There was a fight, but Drake was overpowered by the warriors and was chased off, not without a few new scars.
- Apprentice: Torrentpaw became an apprentice slightly late, alongside her siblings who were a bit younger than her. She was extremely timid as an apprentice, and some of the more cynical warriors worried she wouldn't become a warrior, especially after her brother, Duskpaw, was killed by a coyote. However, she persevered, and with encouragement from her mentor, she grew into a clever and swift cat.
- Warrior: Torrentpaw was given the name Torrentheart due to her loyalty and kindness. She had grown into her own somewhat, and although she was still anxious and quiet, she began to take on some responsibility once she became a warrior. She learned she was a patient mentor, and happily mentored any apprentice assigned to her.
- Deputy: Despite her dedication to the clan, Torrentheart was surprised when Hawthornstar chose her as deputy. Although she knew she was well-trusted by the leader, she never thought of herself as deserving of such a role. However, she accepted the position, and pushed herself to fill it well. She put her heart into it, and continued to do what made her happy: helping her clan.
- Leader: Torrentheart was shocked and devastated when Hawthornstar passed from Greencough. Although she was scared, she knew that her clan needed a leader, so she pushed her own feelings aside and stepped up as leader. She chose Frozenfox as the clan's deputy due to his intelligence and dedication. Torrentstar received her 9 lives, and is still trying to get her footing as leader.

WRITING SAMPLE
Prompt 1. Hawthornstar has contracted greencough, and try as the medicine cats may, her lives continue to slip away one by one until she joins your ancestors in StarClan. Her loss was sudden, and it's now your turn to step up. What do you say to reassure the clan that you are ready and able to guide and protect them? What do you do to ensure this disease is simply an isolated incident and not an indicator of things to come?
Torrentheart was outside of the leader's den, curled up in a tight ball as she attempted to sleep. She was dozing, but it wasn't restful. She refused to sleep in the warrior's den; she was there for her leader if she or their medicine cat needed anything. Each time the medicine cat left the den, Torrentheart woke up, drearily meeting their eyes and asking, in a whisper, how she was doing. How she could help. Her grey spotted pelt, usually so well-tended, was messy and stuck up at odd angles, but she couldn't bring herself to pay it much mind.
Suddenly, Torrentheart snapped awake as a fit of coughing sounded from the leader's den, and the deputy's heart filled with dread. She jumped to her paws and slipped inside the den, softly asking the medicine cat how she could help. But the medicine cat simply shook their head, looking down at their paws sorrowfully. Torrentheart didn't need to hear the words spoken. She gave a gentle lick to her leader's head as the coughing stopped, remaining by her side until her breath stopped as well.
With a heavy heart, Torrentheart and ReedClan's medicine cat left the den, catching the attention of the warriors on guard. "She's gone," Torrentheart said softly, her voice drenched in grief. "Wake the other warriors," she said. "We mourn our leader tonight."
---
After Hawthornstar's vigil, Torrentheart left for the Star-Drip Cave immediately; she couldn't risk any time without her StarClan-given lives; her Clan needed a leader. Her self-doubt was forced out of her mind, she pushed herself out of her own head to do what needed to be done.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join me for a Clan meeting," Torrentstar called out, her usually quiet voice projecting across the camp, and the summoned cats filtered out of their dens to hear what their new leader had to say, looking up at her with curiosity, and no small amount of worry.
"ReedClan," she said, her voice soft but loud enough that the gathered cats could hear her, "Hawthornstar is gone. I share your sorrow, and your shock. None of us could have predicted this loss. I never thought I would become leader so soon, or under such sad circumstance. But I promise you this: I will do everything in my power to fill her paws, and to become the leader that ReedClan deserves. My dedication to my Clan has not wavered in this troubling time, and I will put my all into leading you. From this point forward, I implore you all to come to me with any concerns you may have, and I will do my best to address each of your concerns. Please, let me know if you need anything, and may StarClan guide us."
She dismissed the clan and returned to the leader's den - her den now. Thoughts swam in her head, and she had to resist the urge to weep. She wanted nothing more than to help her clan; she always had. She always would. But was she good enough? Did she deserve the 9 lives she was given? Her brain hissed at her the darkest of thoughts. It should have been me... But she couldn't let her clan see her fear- she wouldn't let her clan see her fear. She would be strong for them.
---
"Torrentstar?" asked one of the queens, catching her attention as she was about to leave the nursery. "I... have a question. Or, a concern, I suppose."
"Of course," the leader responded, "what is it?"
"Hawthornstar's greencough- what if it starts to effect the rest of the clan? What about the kits?"
"I recognize your concern, truly. I'll speak with the medicine cats about it as soon as I can."
"Thank you, Torrentstar."
She kept her promise to the queen, and in fact headed directly to the medicine den.
"No one is showing any signs of greencough or whitecough," the medicine cat assured her.
"That's good news. But we should still be alert. I trust your judgment, but I believe we should be as cautious as possible..." Her tail lashed in thought.
She called for her new deputy, and the three cats spoke about what they could do to prevent another infection. Of course, there was nothing that could guarantee the sickness wouldn't come back- but they would do everything in their power to avoid it.
"We'll send out more patrols looking for herbs," Torrentstar decided. "Anycat that has a cough, even if they don't feel sick, reports to the medicine den immediately, no questions asked. Moss beds are to be changed every other day, every day for the nursery and elders."
Torrentstar gave her decree once she departed her meeting with the deputy and medicine cat, and she watched as her clan jumped to action. She breathed out a heavy sigh as she watched, hoping that she really was doing all she could. After a moment, she got to her paws, heading for the den to help change the moss. She would see her clan through this; ReedClan needed a leader, and she would be right there with them.
