SOFTWILLOW of BRANCHCLAN
42 MOONS
DEPUTY
SHE-CAT
BI-ROMANTIC DEMISEXUAL
Softkit was born into an already large family. Her father had four kits by another she-cat, which made Softkit the fifth. Unfortunately, her mother grew ill shortly after she was born, and she was left to be raised among her father and four half-brothers.
Needless to say, with so many toms pushing her around, Softkit learned that she was going to have to be tough from an early age. Her brothers loved to rough-house and showed no mercy to her just because she was smaller than they were. She fought back against them with everything she had, unafraid to stand toe-to-toe with any of them going against the name she had been given at birth. It was during this time that Softkit knew she wanted to be a great warrior one day—and maybe even lead the clan.
Softpaw was all too eager to finally be named an apprentice, ready to finally start working toward her dream of being a great warrior someday. Morningmist was assigned to her as her mentor. The cat was older, with lots of wisdom to share. Softpaw idolized them, eager to learn everything she possibly could. She worked hard, and it soon became apparent that Softpaw had a gift for thinking quick under pressure, regardless of how afraid she was. When it became apparent that Softpaw would remain on the smaller side, Morningmist helped to cultivate this skill into one of Softpaw's greatest assets.
It was around this time she met a young tom warrior named Rowandawn. He was a large, strong cat with striking blue eyes—perhaps the most vivid that Softpaw had ever seen. The two became fast friends when Softpaw was around ten moons old and well on her way to becoming a warrior herself. She learned quickly that Rowandawn had once been an apprentice of Morningmist as well, and the two used this mutual connection to begin a close, lasting friendship.
Softwillow was named a warrior after defending the BranchClan territory from bold and unforgiving rogues. Her quick-thinking under pressure had been instrumental in the clan's success against the rogues; no doubt that if Softwillow hadn't been there, one or more of their own would have been lost in the fight.
The then-leader determined that the suffix -willow would be best for Softwillow due to her flexibility and the fact that she was able to adapt quickly to new situations. From that day forward, Softwillow wore her warrior name with pride and worked her tail off to do everything she could for the good of the clan.
Not long after she was named a warrior, Softwillow became close friends with the one who would one day become the leader of BranchClan: Russetfang. Russetfang was an incredible warrior, and Softwillow looked up to her, admired her strength and prowess, and tried her best to emulate Russetfang however she could. Though the two were reserved at first, they soon grew to be very close friends—always having each other's backs no matter what. Their somewhat dry and nearly scathing senses of humor were perfect together, and they would often be caught hurling insults or snide remarks at each other before dissolving into laughter.
Little did she know that after only eighteen moons of being a warrior, Russetfang would become Russetstar, and she tapped Softwillow to be her deputy. Softwillow was floored, knowing there were much older and more experienced warriors that Russetstar could have chosen, but in the end, Softwillow was honored and overjoyed that it was her level head that Russetstar wanted by her side.
It was the beginning of her dreams coming true; everything Softwillow had worked so hard for was coming to fruition. For the first few moons of her deputyship, Softwillow worked twice as hard than she ever had before in order to open herself up to the rest of the clan and get to know everyone as best she could. Even so, for her deputy patrols, she found herself often picking the same few, trusted cats to accompany her—and Rowandawn was often one of her first choices.
Though it seemed impossible, the two became closer than ever as a result of her deputyship. It was a lot to handle, especially since she was so young, but Rowandawn had a calm and steadying personality that made Softwillow feel at ease. She could confide in him about anything and he would offer patience and understanding in return. It was during this period of growth between them that Softwillow realized her feelings for him had grown to something more.
She'd flirted with other cats before, both toms and she-cats alike, but her commitment to her duties as a warrior had made all the relationships fizzle before they could truly grow. There was nothing standing in the way of her and Rowandawn, though, and after several moons of agonizing (including more than one night spent whining to Russetstar), Softwillow took the plunge and confessed her feelings to Rowandawn when she was thirty-seven moons old. He returned her feelings, and the two became mates shortly thereafter.
Things in Softwillow's life feel steady for the first time maybe ever; she has grown into her role as deputy over the twelve moons since her promotion, and she finally understands what it means to be truly happy with another cat. All-in-all, Softwillow loves her family, loves her clan, and loves her leader, and is eager to see what the future holds for her and the rest of BranchClan.

PERSONALITY
When one first meets Softwillow, she has a tendency to come off as cool and standoff-ish. She's definitely more reserved around those she doesn't know well, but once she opens up, she has a very warm and nurturing air about her. Even when standoffish, Softwillow is a compassionate she-cat who cares deeply not just for her family, but for the entirety of BranchClan. She is loyal to her clan and loyal to Russetstar and would do anything to ensure the clan is safe and thriving.
Though Softwillow might be lacking in the strength department, she prides herself on being an extremely intelligent and level-headed she-cat. She's clever, quick-thinking, and rational, which means she can come up with solutions to difficult problems on the fly, even when under stress or pressure. She likes to view a problem from multiple perspectives so that she has the most objective information possible. She's the kind of cat who will play Dark Forest's Advocate just to make sure that perspective is considered.
She is a driven cat who wants nothing but the best for herself and has never allowed the prospect of a mate or kits to get in the way of her goals. She also has an almost scathing sense of humor; once she becomes close to another cat, she won't hesitate to use her sharp-tongue against them.
