RUSSETSTAR of BRANCHCLAN
60 MOONS
LEADER
FEMALE
LESBIAN
Russetstar is a cat with good intentions and a fierce loyalty to her Clan, but without a knack for presenting herself in such a way.
At first impression Russetstar appears to be a fierce as potentially cold leader- with a drive to prove herself and her Clan worth their pride, and without a fear to use her claws to show it. She can be rather harsh with her tongue and hard to get to know because of it- she's not great about letting most get particularly close aside the few friends she has already made.
Underneath all of it though, Russetstar cares of her clan, and simply wants what is best for it. She wants her clan, her friends, to thrive, and she'd lay down her life again and again for any member of her Clan to make sure they get out alive. She cares deeply about the well being of those she's around, and if given a chance to show it- she can be rather soft and compassionate.
She also is rather notorious for her deadpan, viscous humor.
The three kits were inseperable, and also caused Silverlight plenty of trouble, though it was only out of the nature of kits being kits rather than any ill intent. Russetkit seemed to have the biggest predelection for exploration and rambunctiousness- with frequent escape attempts and plans to lead her siblings to the rest of camp, though thanks to Silverlight's watchful eye no real successes came out of any of these attempts.
The apprentice grew quickly, tall, but she never bulked out, and it quickly became apparent that she was a natural at traversing the trees- even for a BranchClan Cat. Her lithe frame and long tail made for impeccable balance, and speed quickly followed with her balance. Hunting birds and foe alike with speed and grace became Russetpaw's more notable skills.
It was not till near the end of her apprenticeship that Russetpaw made a close friend- found in a fresh new apprentice named Chickadeepaw. The two bonded quickly as duties would occasionally pair them together, and they soon spent what time they could together during that brief single moon where they were both in the same rank.
Being a warrior brought independence Russetfang did not have before, and it was no coincidence when Russetfang and Chickadeepaw would end up on hunting or border patrols together throughout Chickadeepaw's apprenticeship. Time spent together in camp as well continued between them, and with no set dens in BranchClan's camp, the two would often be found sharing branches together for the night.
It was not till her friend gained her warrior name, Chickadeebounce, that Russetfang confessed feelings past friendship for the other she-cat. Chickadeebounce returned the feelings, and the two became mates officially not long after Chickadeebounce became a warrior. The two were inseparable.
Russetfang took on an apprentice at this time as well, a small tom by the name of Starlingpaw. The tom was rambunctious and airy more than anything else, and Russetfang had originally found herself frustrated with the tom more often than not- but she was determined, she wanted the young cat to grow into a fine warrior. In time, and much growth on both of their parts, Starlingpaw became Starlingflight.
She shared her excitement with her mate, and her new friend as well- a fresh warrior by the name of Softwillow- though the two's relationship remained anything but soft, often full of biting prods that would devolve into laughter between them, and with a fierce loyalty to protect each other's backs. The three were overjoyed to see one of them climbing the ranks, and so Russetfang threw herself into her duties, eager to do her part for BranchClan.
She felt at her peak- deputy of the clan she loved so much, with a mate at her side and a friend at her back- but some things are not meant to be. Chickadeebounce had another path destined for her- that of a medicine cat, if the omen was to believed. When the news broke Russetfang was outraged at first- that her mate of years could be taken away for a position Chickadeebounce had never anticipated to be in.
Chicadeebounce had split them up regardless of their own feelings- for the good of their clan- and soon enough Russetfang came to accept this, even if the sight of her once-was mate was still hard to swallow at times. Softwillow and Russetfang grew closer during this time, the two coming to rely on each other fore more than witty conversation- genuine confiding not an infrequent happening between them.
And so Russetfang forced herself to move on, to keep her eyes off BranchClan's new medicine cat apprentice, and return to her duties fullheartedly. For any observer, it seemed as though she had barely mourned the loss of her mate to begin with.
She named her friend Softwillow her deputy- not able to imagine a better cat for the position; trustworthy and quick-witted, Softwillow was a driven individual with plenty to bring to the position. The choice was practically expected of the leader, despite the younger age of the deputy.
Eventually, Russetstar even returned the favour of confiding, when Softwillow came to her about her own interests in a certain tom, and was more than happy to watch a relationship blossom between the two- it was much easier to watch a love life from the side-lines than make herself think about what her own had turned out to be.
Chickadeebounce eventually took on her predecessors role as the Medicine Cat, and despite her own heartache, Russetstar was happy to see Chickadeebounce grow in her position, and the two remain on close on topics of the clan, and work together well despite the underlying tensions of their past- Russetstar aims to forget it all, after all.
The past year under her leadership has proved her to be a well-meaning leader, though there a ferocity in her pride for her clan, and open hostilities are not above her if she feels as though BranchClan is being slighted or underestimated.

HISTORY
KITHOOD (0-6 moons)
Russetkit brought to BranchClan with a sister and a brother, Tawnykit and Oakkit. The trio was taken to camp by their father, Stoatpad, who claimed the kits, remarkably devoid of all real scent, had come from his relationship with a rogue, and had brought them to be raised by the Clan. Around this time, MeadowClan accused BranchClan of kit theft, but with no unaccounted for kits, and with Stoatpad's stellar reputation, BranchClan defended their right to their kits, and no real solution was reached. And all in all, their time spent in the nursery was uneventful and warm, with plenty of milk and little familial drama.
APPRENTICESHIP (6-12 moons)
When the time came, she was given a mentor, and Russetpaw followed after Sparrowsong with an admiration in her eye and a drive to impress. The she-cat was a bright and even-tempered warrior, full of sincerity and a bit of a mothering instinct to her- yet with a sternness that did not let Russetpaw grow too unruly under her eye. Russetpaw thrived underneath Sparrowsong's mentorship.

WARRIORHOOD (12-30 moons)
A warrior's assessment is what determined Russetpaw ready to be named. The newly named Russetfang felt pride and excitement like none other when she was named, the only damper on the event the fact that Chickadeepaw could not follow. Russetfang was never known for her patience, but she knew in time her friend would follow.Being a warrior brought independence Russetfang did not have before, and it was no coincidence when Russetfang and Chickadeepaw would end up on hunting or border patrols together throughout Chickadeepaw's apprenticeship. Time spent together in camp as well continued between them, and with no set dens in BranchClan's camp, the two would often be found sharing branches together for the night.

In time, and much growth on both of their parts, Starlingpaw became Starlingflight.
DEPUTYSHIP (30-48 moons)
The leader of the time, Beechstar, an old tom that Russetfang had never known closer than a warrior and leader respect, named Russetfang his deputy after the retirement of the previous deputy to the elders den. Russetfang was floored, but rejoiced regardless, and was more than eager to prove herself as capable and willing to fulfill her position. She shared her excitement with her mate, and her new friend as well- a fresh warrior by the name of Softwillow- though the two's relationship remained anything but soft, often full of biting prods that would devolve into laughter between them, and with a fierce loyalty to protect each other's backs. LEADERSHIP (48-60 moons)
Eventually, Beechstar died- and all of BranchClan mourned the loss of a leader that had lead them for nearly uncountable moons. Russetfang mourned the loss of a leader that seemed almost like a mentor to her during her Deputyship, but she could not linger, and went on to take her place in his stead as Russetstar. She named her friend Softwillow her deputy- not able to imagine a better cat for the position; trustworthy and quick-witted, Softwillow was a driven individual with plenty to bring to the position. The choice was practically expected of the leader, despite the younger age of the deputy.
