PERSONALITY
while his brothers take their high ranking history in stride, ratshadow wields it almost as a weapon. he acts superior, perhaps a bit stuck up and haughty, viewing his father's name as an excuse to get away with nonsense and laziness. a leader's son shouldn't have to do such menial chores, and he pays no mind to the fact that no cat agrees with him. he enjoys himself most when doing nothing of importance, whether it is gossiping or napping or strutting around the borders for cats of other clans to chat with and make himself known. he wants his name to be out there, and he doesn't care about the connotations attached to it.
he's a care-free tom, incredibly accepting and forgiving, but also a but too lenient and relaxed regarding things such as boundaries or rules. he can't be bothered with such things, and such an attitude stems equally from feeling above such things as well as laziness. while loyal to his friends and family, his commitment to such things can be shaky as best, the sort to stand someone up because he forgot a plan or to avoid tasks in favor of more interesting ventures. he's self serving most of the time, any true loyalty reserved for his brothers.
ratshadow, true to his name, tends to avoid confrontation and straightforwardness. he prefers less direct actions, favoring secrecy and getting other's to do work for him rather than taking action himself. he is quick to offer ideas to others, but even quicker to wash his hands of the idea if things go sour. just as sneaky as his namesake, he comes off as somewhat of a coward, getting others to do his work for him, and were he more ambitious, he could make a dangerous cat. but he is content to aim for nothing at all, simply enjoying himself no matter the consequences.

HISTORY
ratkit was born alongside his two brothers to the leader of branchclan and his mate. the pair had been in love for moons, but cypresscall's fertility (or lack of) made conceiving kits difficult. it wasn't until the pair were older that cypresscall finally gave birth to three little tom kits.
ratkit, named for his pelt as well as the skinny appearance of his tail before it filled out, wasn't too much of a troublemaker as a kit. no, he would rather sleep or send his brothers on adventures and avoid blame whenever they got in trouble. beechstar passed away when the brothers were only two moons old, ratkit not quite old enough to miss him, though he would soon begin using his father's name as an excuse to misbehave.
as an apprentice, he was assigned to the young warrior, boragestrike, probably an attempt by russetstar to teach some obedience and work ethic to the younger tom. unfortunately, the plan didn't work, ratpaw doing the bare minimum to get by and laze about when possible. he did just enough to avoid both boragestrike's and russetstar's wrath, barely squeaking through his apprenticeship to earn his warrior name. he wasn't bad at his tasks, not by any means. in fact, he was quite good when he applied himself. applying himself, though...that was the problem.
he was named ratshadow for his indirect nature, as well as his favoritism towards stealth and secrecy. since then, he has been continuing his less than impressive work as a warrior. he simply wants to enjoy himself in his own way, which often doesn't line up with the expectations of a clan member. but he does his part, enough to get by, spending the rest of his time being a poor example for younger cats. hopefully he will grow out of such behavior...hopefully. or perhaps he just needs a wake-up call to the unforgiving reality he's apart of.
