the rising sun

The sun was only just beginning to rise. The rest of the clan was still asleep, but Graystar had woken up before the crack of dawn. Always an early riser, waking up so early now seemed to be quite a habit of his. He lifted his head and fixed his amber gaze out at the skyline, watching as the sun slowly rose and began shining its light down on the sleepy landscape.

He didn't really expect anyone else to be up this early. It was just an old habit of his; the earlier to wake, the more daylight to get things done. That's how he chose to look at it, anyway. Graystar had always been a bit of a workaholic and rarely gave himself time to really relax. But little moments like this, where the clan was still sleeping, where the sun hadn't quite risen yet and everything was quiet, the leader had come to appreciate. Peace and quiet like this was pretty hard to come by, ever since he had become Meadowclan's leader.

Graystar curled his tail around his paws and stifled a small yawn. His ears swiveled, in an attempt to listen for any sudden noises, but the camp was silent. Still, the tom wouldn't let his guard down. He sat up straight and kept his ears pricked, ready to move in case someone decided to wake up and approach him.
