SUNBIRD of BRANCHCLAN

you'd be hard-pressed to find a cat with as much outward presenting anxiety as sunbird. from a very young age he's been scared to interact with other cats, especially after the transition from cavernclan to branchclan. he's been introverted throughout all of it, having not had many friends to his name from before he came to branchclan -- and then at three moons when he switched clans, for the longest time his only friends were lilykit and goldenkit. even then, he was always closer to goldenkit than he was the she-kit. on top of all of his anxiety, he's a nervous wreck, often times turning to hide his face into braveshine or some sort of firm surface whenever he doesn't want to make eye contact with another cat.
pessimistic, unconfident, insecure. on top of being deeply anxious about everything in his life, sunbird maintains an almost impressively pessimistic outlook on life, even going so far as to insult those people with overly optimistic ideals. he tries not to, obviously, but sometimes it slips out. he tends to be rather timid as a consequence, scared to say something to another cat for fear that it would be taken the wrong way by that cat. even with cats he's more confident with he lives a more reserved lifestyle, content to be a quiet cat in the background.
he's also incredibly insecure about his own talents and skills, despite having passed his apprentice assessment with flying colors. he often doubts himself and his decisions about things, deferring to braveshine for most of these situations as if he can't make the decisions himself. due to his doubts in life, he tends to get easily overwhelmed, especially if a lot of cats are looking to him for responses or attention.
despite his pessimistic outlook on life, sunbird is incredibly dedicated to his morals, finding that the best way to be a warrior is to look out for those around him and be the kindest he can be, trying to go out of his way to help others when he can. he's a sweet cat, ultimately, just very scared of well.. everything.
with all of his anxieties, it's a wonder that he blooms when he's around braveshine. something about his relationship with braveshine brings out the best in him, turning him into one of the most blatantly affectionate and loving cats -- so long as no one else is looking. he's brave, for braveshine, he's willing to go out of his comfort range to an extent if it means he'll help inspire him. truly, braveshine makes sunbird the best version of himself.
regardless, they had a kit. a little black she-cat with big ears, and they were in love immediately. but blackbelly ultimately couldn't keep him with her in cavernclan -- she wanted her to be able to experience life in branchclan. she had named him for the sun, after all, something she'd so rarely get to see in cavernclan. and so at three moons old, she crossed cavernclan territory under the moonlight, and deposited the bundle carefully at pigeoncrest's feet. he would bring sunkit back with him to branchclan, to be raised by the queens currently in the nursery. the kit introduced herself to her denmates, and insisted firmly that they call her a tom. it wasn't an issue, after all, to call him what he preferred.
it was when he came to the clan that he met the other two kids in the nursery, lilykit and goldenkit. he took to them immediately, goldenkit even more than lilykit for the way that goldenkit immediately tried to become friends with him. they would become inseparable, quickly becoming extremely close friends and cats who had kittencrushes on each other -- not that either of them would ever admit it.
his apprenticeship was... rough. not because he was unable to complete his tasks, but because he was so worried all the time about messing up that it meant he took extra long to learn everything. of course, in the end he passed his tests with flying colors, earning him his warrior name: sunbird. throughout all this he continued to be fast friends with goldenshine and lilyheart, though his relationship with goldenshine continued to develop further, almost as if they were meant for each other, to be soulmates.
everything changed when goldenshine got hurt. a young badger was bearing down on a group of loners, too young to fight back. and goldenshine raced to their rescue -- earning a nasty scar down his face and side for his troubles. when he returned to camp, it was to a new name: braveshine, for his heroic efforts in attempting to save the loner kits.
it was hard for sunbird, seeing his best friend laying hurt in the medicine cat den. he would spend most of those months in the medicine cat's den with him, curled up carefully against his side and helping chickadeebounce treat his wounds. he would learn bits and pieces of healing, and in the meantime, his relationship with braveshine would develop even further. they're still not back to normal, but they're scant pawlengths away from being mates, and for now, that's good enough for sunbird.
BRAVESHINE :: a cat sunbird has known since he was three moons old. braveshine is the most important cat in sunbird's life, and he would give anything to make sure he's happy and healthy.
LILYHEART :: the she-cat that sunbird befriended upon being brought to branchclan. they're good friends, though not nearly as close as sunbird is with braveshine.
BLACKBELLY :: sunbird's mother. she still lives in cavernclan, but for everyone involved they pretend not to know each other at gatherings, despite how much it hurts.
PIGEONCREST :: sunbird's father. an elder warrior in branchclan, and a cat that sunbird does in fact look up to, even if he never shows it.
