They tell me I'm too young to understand They say I'm caught up in a dream Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes Well that's fine by me |
Oh, he was stressed.
Stressed was an understatement, actually. He hadn't felt relaxed since the deaths of his mother and brother, but standing in the canopy camp of BranchClan, Pale was certain his heart would fail him.
Much of his attention was focused on not looking down, for this was the highest he had ever been in the trees, while he also tried to focus on looking as comfortable and nonchalant about the height as the cats around him. He was certain he wasn't too successful.
Still, despite the fear causing his heart to race, the whole experience was also exhilarating. All these cats, living comfortably among the trees, living a life his mother had only ever hinted at! He wished his brother could have been there to see it with him.
Pale had been allowed into the camp following his clumsy and rushed explanation of his family, and so far had been permitted to stay. Waiting on Russetstar now, though, he felt some over-imaginative part of his mind wonder whether the Clan would change their mind and have him executed or...something. Surely not, right? He hadn't even been threatened so far, and he knew Clan cats took blood relations very seriously, and he was definitely half BranchClan.
Only half, that little part of his brain reminded him.
Claws tugging a bit at the wood beneath his paws, Palepaw cast a glance at the cats around him before focusing back to where Russetstar had planned to meet to discuss his future in the Clan. Or out of it. One way or another.
